Hello,
I'm Bronwyn Frazier,
artist, mask maker, actress, and creator of eyefeather.com. I've
been an artist most of my life, but never did much sculpting until
I went to Arcadia University (formerly Beaver
College). There I learned a lot in a short amount of time.
I discovered I wanted to be on stage, and through the wonderful
people at the theatre department I learned about masks. One of my
movement assignments was to make a mask and "bring it to life"
for the class. I made five, some of which you can see in the portfolio
section. My movement professor encouraged me to keep making masks
and suggested I look into neoprene latex. When I discovered acting
and mask making, I changed my major from scientific illustration,
to a double major in theatre arts and English and studio arts.
I
did research and read books on mask making. Neoprene latex looked
like a great way to go, especially when I found out the masks from
my favorite movie, Labyrinth, were
made from the stuff. I made about 20
masks for my studio art thesis, and was able to incorporate several
of them into the theatre thesis's "Senior Show."
Since
college I've continued to make masks and have some of them used
in local community theater productions and films. My masks have
been in four different art shows. Recently I've done some mask and
commedia demonstrations. I would love to create a mask show some
day, because to see a mask "come to life"
is still a wonderful experience.
